In accordance with Article 3, Section 3 of the IUOE Constitution, an election will be held at the February 3, 2018 General Membership Meeting to select an Alternate Delegate to the 2018 IUOE General Convention.
For a number of years Local 963 has made a $200 donation to the Vancouver Food Bank instead of issuing Christmas greeting cards. We have done so again this year. We think those who would have received a greeting card are pleased to know that this community donation has been made on their behalf. Happy Holidays to all!
Attached is the registration form for the Local’s Annual Children’s Christmas Party. Please make additional copies of the form, if necessary, to accommodate all members.
Registration is limited to children and grandchildren of members of I.U.O.E. Local 963 who are 10 years old or younger.
The party will be held at the Churchill Secondary Cafeteria, this year on Saturday, December 9, 2017 starting at 11:30 a.m. There will be food, entertainment, and, of course, Santa will be there with a gift for every registered child who is present when their age group is called.
Please return your registration form and $5.00 for each child registered to the Union Office at 707 Durward Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. VSV 2Y9 before November 24, 2017.
Also, please note that, if any child is unable to attend the party for any reason, his/her gift will be donated to charity.
We are in need of volunteers to help out with the Christmas Party. If you are willing to help, please call Harjit Khangura at 604-817-1583 or Judith at 604-876-6287 prior to December 1, 2017.
Responding to an inquiry by the union, the Vancouver Board of Education Payroll Department reports that there was an “administrative error” in processing clothing/footwear allowances for Custodians. All other groups should have received their allowances in accordance with the collective agreement. Custodians clothing/footwear allowance will be paid out on October 6, 2017.
As you are aware forest fires have impacted our province and communities where IUOE members work and live. In Williams Lake and the surrounding area it is estimated that there are more than 600 members from Locals 115,882 & 959 who have been temporarily displaced. The long term impact is unknown at this time. Several Local 882 members have stayed in town to ensure the fire hall remained open and that pumping stations, generators and heavy equipment are available for use when needed. They are committed to keeping critical city services running as long as possible.
Local 963’s Officers have approved a donation to assist fellow IUOE members similar to the donation made to assist in last years wildfires at Fort McMurray Alberta, at $10 per member.
Vancouver Board of Education Payroll has stated they are still processing vacation pay. This means that it is not likely that employees will receive their vacation payouts in their bank accounts on June 30th. Due to the statutory holiday it may deposited next Tuesday or Wednesday.
