A letter has been issued to VSB staff regarding upcoming anti-racism training. Permanent staff will be completing this in-service training on September 7, 2021, which is an additional non-instructional day that was added by the Vancouver Board of Trustees for next year.
For Temporary (Casual) Employees this training can be done when they choose (provided it is before June 30/21) and those who complete the training will receive 5 hours pay. Here is the letter:
Hello On-Call Staff,
First, thank you for your extraordinary support during these exraordinary times. Your work and support of our school district is greatly appreciated. Some of you may be aware that the Vancouver Board of Education passed a motion on Nov. 30, 2020 to organize Anti-Racism training for all VSB staff:
That the Vancouver Board of Education engages independent experts with an understanding of students in the K-12 system to design and deliver anti-racsim training for all educators with a focus on anti-Black, anti-Idigenous, and anti-Asian racism. And that this training be at least one full day of training, including reference [to] child rights, VSB policies and procedures on discrimination, hate, racism, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI), and incident reporting and response. And that this training be mandatory for all employee groups and trustees to be completed by September 30, 2021 with a follow-up in the same year to obtain feedback amd make needed changes.
Staff that work at school sites will be completing this in-service training on Tuesday September 7, 2021 which is an additional non-instructional day that was added by the Vancouver Board of Trustees for next year.
At this time, the District would like all On-Call staff to complete the in-service before June 30, 2021, if possible. This will be a paid day.
There are 3 videos online totaling 4 hours and 30 minutes that you can watch at home. Many of you may choose to wathc the videos at home during Spring Break (March 15-19) or the ETO week (March 22-26) as there won’t be any On-Call work. Alternatively, there is a district-wide Professional Development day on April 26, 2021 or the final day of school, June 30, 2021. Here is the link:
If you do not have access to a computer, you ca watch the modules at the Education Centre on one of the folloieng dates: March 18, 19, 22, 23, 23, 25, or April 26, 2021. Additional dates will be released if needed. You will need to register for one of these dates on the PD site to ensure we maintain the reduced capacities of each room. https://prod.vsb.bc.ca
If you are watching the videos at home, there will be a completion code at the end of each module which links to a short survey which will advise Employee Services that you have completed the module. If your regular work day is less than 5 hours, you will be paid for 5 hours. Otherwise, you will be paid for the full day.
If you have any questions, please contact Adrienne Melville at email@example.com
Again, thank you for your work and continued support.
